Isabelle Paradis
Ms. Paradis completed her conservation training at the Sorbonne in Paris in 1996, then immediately came to Canada and began working at the Centre de Conservation du Quebec (CCQ) that same year, where she still works to this day. Ms. Paradis developed expertise in the restoration of stone artworks, which led to her initiation of the stone specialization and founding of the metal-stone studio at CCQ which was previously a metals-only studio. For nearly 30 years she has contributed generously to the development of the profession, and focused on advancing the field within the built heritage sector, notably through her major contributions to the understanding of architectural finishes. Research and development in restoration are integral parts of her daily methods and objectives. She relies on science, through research and analysis, as well as on her extensive experience, to carry out project that meet a very high level of expertise and quality.
In collaboration with her colleague Elizabeth Cloutier, Isabelle established a database on mortars and plasters, as well as published on the subject, advancing the knowledge of historic mortars and plasters through the development of analytical methods and a greater understanding of traditional craftsmanship. This new knowledge, which was virtually nonexistent in Canada, contributes significantly to research and historical documentation on the subject. This project constitutes an important contribution to the development of knowledge regarding our construction methods and the conservation and restoration of Québec built heritage.
Ms. Paradis is also generous in sharing her extensive experience, knowledge, and time with the community of conservation professionals. She is a strong advocate for collaborative work with all trades and professions connected to her specialization.
